I was making waffles and scrambled eggs, Paul was making coffee, when we heard someone sauntering down the stairs. Wesley came out into the kitchen with the saddest look on his face and said..."I'm not trying to be mean to this shirt, but it doesn't go with my pants!" He then plopped down by the back door and tried to shove his shoes on. He was getting more frustrated by the second. I went over to him and hugged him, but had to get back to the eggs on the stove. So Paul went over in my place. I looked over as he sat down by Wesley and talked to him. I couldn't hear what he was saying, I just heard the comfort in Paul's voice. Then, I heard a little giggle from Wesley. I hope I always have that moment freeze framed in my mind. It's not one that I could go grab the camera and take a picture of.
As Paul was walking Wesley to his class, Wesley told him that he was nervous about 1st grade.
I can so relate to my little Wesley today. Whenever I'm nervous about something, I feel like nothing looks good on me, my hair won't work, I get irritable, etc... I love the verse Psalm 139:14 "I will praise thee for I am fearfully and wonderfully made, marvelous are thy works and that my soul knows well."
At least he wasn't trying to be "mean" to his shirt. :)
